Dear Mr ARGY - further to the email from Stephen GOULD Wed 22 Nov
re the clarification of the two XML Address Formats for AS 4590, there
have been additional Government tenders published last week that illustrate
the urgency for a single XML Address format for AS 4590.
A Examples of tenders where single format AS 4590 required
B Conflicts in IT Standards eg MS Word v Wordperfect
C Next Steps
A EXAMPLES OF TENDERS
There have been a number of tenders published in the last week
that require organisations to link electronically with trading partners.
The Tenders include:
1 ACT Health for an Electronic Discharge & Referral processs
2 Boroondara Council Contract Management System
3 The 400% dramatic increase in Local Government tenders
over the last 2 months
B CONFLICTS IN STANDARDS-MS WORD V WORDPERFECT
As you are probable very aware there are major problems when
there are conflicts in proprietary standards like MS-Word and Wordperfect
OIC members were involved with the Australian Water and Wastewater
Association [AWWA] who were reviewing the OIC Electronic Association
Information Management [EAIM] System when the problems with different
departments using the different word-processing standards added
considerable time and costs to operations
Even though both Word Processing Packages were supposed to be
able to read the other format neither could exchange documents
without considerable word-by-word checking by the operators.
The problem with the two XML Address formats within AS 4590 will
add a great deal of unnecessary complexity to the information
interchange required for Electronic Commerce
C NEXT STEPS
There are OIC and SMEEMS members prepared to participate
electronically to confirm a single XML format for AS 4590.
1 Will the Australian Computer Society support the proposal
for a single XML Address format for AS 4590 ?
2 Is the timetable proposed to clarify a single format acceptable
to the ACS ?
Your speedy response would be appreciated.
Thank you
Regards
