1945 - 1980 : Recovery in post-War Europe was
slow. But by the 1960s, the wheels were turning again.
Many of the great houses and collections were now in public hands, in
some cases given, in others seized. Business, now focused in London and
Paris, had to be regenerated.
In the 1960s new avenues were explored. Together, the British and
French banks committed themselves to further developing a new operation in
the U.S.A. which was eventually to become Rothschild Inc.
In London, N M Rothschild & Sons took an early role in the new
Eurobond markets and developed its role in the field of asset management,
a role which would expand internationally in the 1980s.
A new force in Rothschild finance was born with the creation by Edmond
de Rothschild in 1963 of the Swiss-based La Compagnie Financière Edmond de
Rothschild (LCF).
From its beginnings as a venture capital house, this was soon to expand
into a fully fledged investment bank and asset management company, with a
range of affiliates.
The acquisition of the "Banque Privée" (Geneva) will reinforce the
developpement of the LCF Rothschild Group in the field of private
banking. |
